I lived in Manhattan for about two years and then moved when I got married. After I had kids, I thought “yeah I’m never doing that again.” It was fun while it lasted!

It’s fun for sure and I yearn for that vibe a lot but idk it makes me sad now. Granted, I was in Times Square mostly so my experience was a bit skewed

For sure. I avoided TS like the plague when I lived there. I do miss everywhere else but I could never move back.

I immigrated to New York when I was 4, I loved it even after I left at the age of 11. I would visit and yearn to live there.

Fast forward to 35 and I HATE NY, actually any major city for me is a dupe. way too many people, wayyy to noisy and expensive and just not worth the quality of life for what you pay.

I've only been to NYC once, but I relate hard to the bit about the attitude differences in general. I moved from a very friendly place (MN) to the DC metro a few years ago, and wow, do I ever miss polite people who don't glare at you for having the nerve to breathe the same air as them. There are precious few of them here.

I’ve never really seen the appeal. It was overcrowded, sweltering, and with far too many people than seemed sustainable.

Visited recently, loved it but— no one wears flip flops! Flip flops are my summer uniform!

I’d be scared to wear flip flops in the streets of NYC

Yup, that’s what I was told. I stuck to my Vejas which got me through 30,000 steps a day!

I moved to NYC from Bondi, Australia and love it; so fun and different. But yeah conscious this isn’t an American view point on different cities here in the US

I love NYC and will defend it to the death (I was born and raised in Brooklyn), however after basically living with my BF in Florida this whole past winter/early spring I got very used to how clean and friendly it was. And how EASY things were! Publix 4 life! Was definitely a shock to the system to come back to the city :/

Ugh I knowwww it’s such a love/hate. I remember being in awe as a little girl. My mom would take us on the train from

Brooklyn into the village to go to work with her. I would always say “I’m gonna live here when I grow up.” It’ll always have a special place in my heart but I don’t LOVE Florida either so I’m feeling lost 🙃

the combo of both is good for the soul I find!

I have a theater background and DREAMED of living in New York all through high school. I lasted a summer when I graduated college. It was so hard, the city was gross, and I just couldn’t do it 🥲 I think I could only make it work if I was a rich lady with unlimited funds so I could live in a super fancy apartment 🤣

As a Midwest gal, everyone seems to romanticize New York and want to visit. I HAVE NEVER in my 41 years ever felt like I wanted to go to New York for fun. Something about the city, the dirt, and the attitude did not sit well with me. However, Parts of New York look beautiful, so I will travel vicariously by reading the accounts of others' visits to NYC.

I have lived in southern Florida and Central Florida off and on for a few years. The people are way friendlier.

I used to really love the city and I know it was extra bad because I was in TSQ but it feels different than what I was used to as a kid 🥲
